About Us
NanoHalen Oy is a new company founded in 2023 whose operations and product development are located in Joensuu, Finland. Despite the young age of our company, our product is based on more than a decade of technological development, which we now proudly want to bring to the market.
Underpinned by the values of sustainable development and equality
In Finland, the paper industry has been a driving force for almost 150 years. As sustainable innovations are taking over more and more surface area from different industries, the paper industry has also taken steps towards more diverse uses of paper. The product we have developed is part of that significant development in the paper industry.
Paper microfluidics was not developed by NanoHalen alone, but we have been influenced by many studies that have studied the use of paper for various diagnostic solutions. Our idea is based on the desire to use paper for more than just traditional purposes and to create a product for consumers that makes measuring water quality safe and easy.
Active or so-called smart paper was in many ways on the surface about 15 years ago, when the development of our product also began. Paper, which is a recyclable raw material, can be harnessed to replace products that previously required a lot of plastic.
Our mission is to manufacture rapid water measurement methods so that this quality of a substance critical to human life can be monitored cheaply, environmentally friendly and simply.

Equality
Clean water belongs to everyone. We want to provide and enable safe water use for all people. Although we do not provide cleaning solutions ourselves, it is impossible to obtain them unless the problem is first brought to light. With a simple and inexpensive method, unsafe water can be extracted from anywhere.
Safety and ease of use
Easy-to-use and safe measurements are user-friendly. They are used to minimise exposure to harmful chemicals in the measurement situation.
Environmental friendliness
Our renewable raw material, paper, is an environmentally friendly solution. Reducing plastic in tests is an important value that reduces carbon dioxide emissions and the load they bring to the planet, at least indirectly.
